Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know.
Straight answers. No runaround. Urooj built this practice to be transparent — and that starts here.
About Nuu Metabolic
How is Nuu Metabolic different from Hims, Ro, or other telehealth platforms?
Most GLP-1 and HRT telehealth platforms operate on a form-based, asynchronous approval model with minimal clinical relationship and rotating providers. At Nuu Metabolic, Urooj Mujtaba, PA-C is your provider at every visit. Your labs are reviewed personally. Your dose is adjusted based on your response. Your questions are answered by the clinician managing your care, not a support team. This is the concierge model that high-volume platforms structurally cannot offer.
Where does Nuu Metabolic operate?
Illinois only. Urooj is licensed in the State of Illinois, and the practice operates under Nuu Medical PLLC, an Illinois professional medical practice. All visits are conducted via HIPAA-compliant synchronous video, as required by Illinois telehealth regulation for the establishment of the patient-provider relationship.
Who is behind Nuu Metabolic?
Nuu Metabolic was founded by Urooj Mujtaba, PA-C, a Physician Assistant with 15+ years of emergency medicine experience and an active Illinois PA license. Her background includes a master’s degree from MCPHS and pre-clinical experience as a staff writer at BioCentury, covering the pharmaceutical pipeline. She remains the sole clinical provider at the practice.
Getting Started
How do I get started?
Right now, we’re in pre-launch. The first step is joining the Founding Member Waitlist. Once we open in July 2026, every patient begins with the Nuu Blueprint Assessment — a 60-minute 1-on-1 video visit with Urooj that includes medical history, symptom and goal review, lab review or planning, and a personalized care recommendation.
What is the Nuu Blueprint Assessment?
The Blueprint is the gateway to every Nuu path (Reset, Balance, or Complete). It’s a 60-minute clinical visit, $149, that delivers a personalized metabolic and hormone audit you walk away with — whether or not you ultimately enroll. If you enroll in a 90-day path within 7 days of your Blueprint, the $149 is fully credited toward your program.
What if I’m not a candidate for medication?
You still leave the Blueprint with a clear audit of your current metabolic and hormone picture, a clinical recommendation, and direction. If medication isn’t appropriate, Urooj will tell you directly and explain why. The Blueprint has value independent of medication eligibility.
Am I a good candidate for GLP-1 therapy?
GLP-1 therapy is clinically indicated for adults with a BMI of 27 or higher with at least one weight-related condition (such as insulin resistance, hypertension, or metabolic syndrome) — or a BMI of 30 or higher regardless of comorbidities. Final eligibility is determined by Urooj during your Blueprint, based on your full clinical picture — not an algorithm.
Am I a good candidate for HRT?
Most healthy women under 60 who are within 10 years of menopause and experiencing perimenopausal or menopausal symptoms are candidates for HRT, per current Menopause Society guidance. Specific contraindications (certain cancers, undiagnosed bleeding, active blood clot) are screened during your Blueprint. We discuss your full risk-benefit picture before any treatment is initiated.

Still have questions?
I’d love to talk through them.
You don’t have to figure this out alone. Urooj reviews every case personally — this is a clinical relationship, not a portal.

Is the Blueprint Assessment refundable?
The Blueprint is non-refundable because it is a clinical service — a 60-minute visit with a licensed provider. However, if you enroll in any 90-day path within 7 days, the full $149 is credited toward your program.
Can I switch paths after enrollment?
Yes. If your needs change during your 90 days, we discuss moving between paths or upgrading to Complete. Pricing is reconciled fairly.
What happens after my 90-day program?
We’ll discuss continuing care options near the end of your program, based on your progress and goals. Maintenance options are tailored individually and discussed transparently — not auto-renewed.
Insurance & Medication Access
Do you accept insurance?
Nuu Metabolic is a cash-pay practice for clinical care (membership fees). This is intentional — it allows real provider time and care without insurance restrictions.
Medications are different. Branded GLP-1 medications (Wegovy, Zepbound, Ozempic, Mounjaro) and branded hormone therapies are routed to your local pharmacy and may be partially or fully covered by your insurance. Urooj personally handles prior authorization requests and supporting documentation to give your insurance the strongest case for approval.
What is prior authorization, and how does Nuu help?
Insurance companies often require a “prior authorization” — a clinical justification — before they will cover branded GLP-1s or HRT. The quality of that documentation often determines approval or denial. As part of every Reset and Complete membership, Urooj writes prior authorization requests and supports the back-and-forth with your insurance company. We do not guarantee approval (no provider can), but we substantially improve your odds.
Compounded versus branded — what’s the difference?
Compounded GLP-1s (semaglutide, tirzepatide) are custom-prepared by 503A or 503B compounding pharmacies. They are generally lower out-of-pocket cost than branded medications without insurance, but the compounded formulation itself is not FDA-approved as a finished product.
Branded medications (Wegovy, Zepbound, Ozempic, Mounjaro) are FDA-approved finished products with consistent formulation and the strongest body of clinical data. Cash price is high ($1,000–$1,400/month typical), but insurance often substantially covers them with appropriate prior authorization.
At Nuu, we discuss both options candidly during your Blueprint and pursue branded with prior auth first when realistic.
Will my insurance cover Nuu’s membership fees?
No. Membership fees are cash-pay and are not billable to insurance. However, some patients use HSA or FSA funds to pay membership; check with your plan administrator.
Clinical & Safety
How quickly will I see results on GLP-1?
Most patients notice reduced appetite (“food noise” quieting) within 1–2 weeks of starting. Measurable weight changes typically begin around weeks 4–8 and continue across months 3–12. Results vary substantially based on dose, individual response, and adherence to the nutrition and strength components of your plan.
How quickly will I feel HRT working?
Many women notice improvements in sleep, mood, and hot flashes within 2–4 weeks of starting HRT. Other benefits (mental clarity, energy, libido, body composition) often take 2–3 months. Titration adjustments during your 90-day program help dial in your optimal dose.
What are the side effects of GLP-1 medications?
Most common: nausea, mild GI upset, fatigue, and constipation — most often during dose increases. These are typically managed by slower titration, dose adjustment, and timing strategies. Rare but more serious risks (pancreatitis, gallbladder issues, specific thyroid concerns in patients with relevant history) are screened for during your Blueprint.
What are the side effects of HRT?
Common early adjustments can include breast tenderness, mild bloating, spotting, or mood shifts as your body recalibrates. These typically resolve or are managed with titration. Risk profile depends on age, time since menopause, formulation, route of delivery, and personal/family history — all discussed individually during your Blueprint.
Is HRT safe? I’ve heard mixed things.
The 2002 Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) study generated headlines that set hormone care back significantly — but the study population was older (average age 63) and used specific older formulations. Subsequent re-analysis, newer trials, and the Menopause Society’s 2022 position statement have substantially revised the risk picture. For most women starting HRT within 10 years of menopause and under age 60, the benefits typically outweigh the risks. We discuss your specific risk-benefit picture honestly during your Blueprint.
Will I have to take GLP-1 forever?
Possibly, possibly not. Some patients use GLP-1 for 12–18 months to achieve primary weight goals, then transition to maintenance dosing or off medication entirely with a strong nutrition and strength foundation. Others benefit from ongoing low-dose maintenance. We plan your trajectory deliberately.
Will I lose muscle on GLP-1?
Without intentional protein intake and resistance training, GLP-1-driven weight loss can include a meaningful proportion of muscle (and bone) — which is precisely why every Nuu Reset plan includes a nutrition, protein, and strength framework. Preserving lean mass is critical to keeping the weight off and protecting your metabolic rate long-term.
Logistics
How do visits work?
All visits are conducted via HIPAA-compliant synchronous video on our clinical platform. You’ll receive a link and a brief intake to complete before each visit.
How does medication shipping work?
Compounded medications: Shipped discreetly from a partner pharmacy directly to your address, typically within 48–72 hours of prescription. Cold-chain shipping where required.
Branded medications: Routed to your local pharmacy. You pick up directly or use your pharmacy’s delivery service.
Can I message Urooj between visits?
Yes. Secure messaging through our clinical platform is included in every membership. Urooj reviews and responds personally — not a support team — typically within one business day.
What if I have a clinical emergency?
Nuu Metabolic is not an emergency or urgent care service. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department. For urgent but non-emergent concerns between visits, secure messaging is the appropriate channel.
What is your refund policy?
Membership fees are non-refundable once your 90-day program has begun, as clinical resources are reserved for you. See the full Refund Policy for complete terms.
Where can I see your Privacy Policy and Terms?
