A plain-language breakdown of the science, the medications, and what to expect โ from Urooj Mujtaba, PA-C
Your metabolism after 35 isn't your metabolism at 25.
Resting metabolic rate, body composition, insulin sensitivity, and how the body stores fat all shift through the 30s and 40s. By the time most adults notice the change, the body has spent years adjusting โ and the approach that used to work stops working entirely.
What's needed is treatment that addresses the actual mechanisms: appetite signaling, insulin response, fat storage drivers, and muscle preservation. That's what GLP-1 therapy โ with the right provider โ is built to do.

Three things GLP-1 receptor agonists actually do.
Quiets food noise
Slows gastric emptying and amplifies satiety signaling from gut to brain. Most patients describe the constant preoccupation with food quieting down significantly.
Improves insulin response
Helps the body use insulin more effectively, reducing visceral fat storage and improving metabolic markers including A1C, fasting insulin, and triglycerides.
Supports meaningful weight loss
Clinical trials show average body weight reductions of 15โ22.5% over 12โ18 months when paired with appropriate clinical oversight and nutrition strategy.
Brand-name GLP-1 — nothing else.

The most studied GLP-1 for weight management. Once-weekly subcutaneous injection.
Zepbound
Dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist. Strong clinical trial results for weight and metabolic health.
Foundayo
The first non-peptide oral GLP-1, approved April 2026. No injection, and no food or water timing rules.
Ozempic

Mounjaro
The same molecule as Zepbound, approved for type 2 diabetes.
Rybelsus

Off-label prescribing is legal, common, and evidence-guided. Whether any medication is appropriate for you is determined at your clinical visit — a prescription is never guaranteed.
15โ22.5% body weight reduction โ on average.
The most-cited trials for brand-name GLP-1 medications. Every Nuu patient receives a candid discussion of what these numbers mean โ and what they don't.
STEP-1 Trial
Semaglutide 2.4mg weekly. Adults with overweight or obesity, no diabetes.
average body weight reduction at 68 weeks
SURMOUNT-1 Trial
Tirzepatide at varying doses. Adults with overweight or obesity, no diabetes.
average body weight reduction at 72 weeks (highest dose)
Trial participants received structured clinical support throughout. Results in real-world telehealth settings without comparable oversight are typically lower โ which is exactly why the provider relationship matters as much as the medication itself.
Provider-led care. Not just a prescription.
Every Nuu patient gets ongoing management โ not a one-time consult. Your medication, dose, labs, and questions are handled by the same PA-C at every visit.
Clinical evaluation
Full health history and eligibility screening before any prescription is considered.

GLP-1 and metabolic care โ answered.
How quickly will I see results?
Most patients notice reduced appetite within 1โ2 weeks. Measurable weight changes typically begin around weeks 4โ8 and continue across months 3โ12. Results vary based on dose, individual response, and adherence to the nutrition and strength components of your plan.
Will I need to take GLP-1 medication indefinitely?
Possibly, possibly not. Some patients use GLP-1 therapy for 12โ18 months to reach their goals, then transition off with a strong foundation in place. Others benefit from ongoing low-dose maintenance. We plan your trajectory together โ not by default.
What are the most common side effects?
Nausea, mild GI upset, and occasional fatigue โ most often during dose increases. These are managed with slower titration and timing strategies. Rare but serious risks are screened for and discussed at your first visit.
Is the prescription guaranteed?
No. Nuu provides clinical evaluation and ongoing management โ prescription is subject to your individual health history and clinical appropriateness as determined by your provider. If GLP-1 therapy is not right for you, we will tell you clearly and discuss your options.
Can my insurance cover the medication?
Brand-name GLP-1 medications are often covered by insurance with prior authorization. Both Nuu Rx and Nuu Total include prior authorization assistance. The clinical membership fee itself is cash-pay only. Some patients use HSA or FSA funds.
